a trio of birthday cards

The summer always comes with a flurry of birthdays in quantities too vast for me to make cards for everyone (at the moment, in any case). However, I did manage to make three for some members of my family.

First up is a sort of 3D-present-with-ribbons card which I made for my sister-in-law. I’m still making my way through the Hobbycraft card selection, which I’ve used for all the cards – this one used a pink one. Next, I cut out a square from a sheet of the Papermania: Rose Garden set, and used some adhesive foam pads to set it out from the card. I put a couple of ribbons through (cut out of new clothes) and then used the October Afternoon: Boarding Pass stickers to spell out ‘Happy Birthday’.

heart balloon cushion

What with it being summer and ice cream weather, I was wondering what to do with the scraps of ice cream patterned fabric that I had leftover from a previous cushion. I started to cut out the individual ice creams and then tried spreading them out across different fabrics. It didn’t quite work, so I cut some fabric out to back them and started trying to group them together.

bird card

Just a short blog today – here is a wedding acceptance card I made a couple of months ago. I drew two bird shapes (freehand, because I’m lazy like that) on patterned paper, glued them to some cardboard and then stuck them on the card. I then used a needle to pull a ribbon through and tied it in a bow. And er, that was it really!

More cushion action, once again using my seemingly never-ending supply of remnants from C & H Fabrics.

The fabric is absolutely beautiful, really light and perfect for the reason I was making it – as part of a wedding gift!

glass decanter vases

An idea I had for my wedding was using glass decanters to display flowers. They are really cheap to pick up (about £1 from your local charity shop) and you can decorate them too if you like.

I used strings of pearls (also harvested from the charity shops), ribbons, buttons and brooches to decorate mine.

Firstly, I looped the necklaces round the decanter and put brooches on the plain ones. Next, I thread a pearly button onto two ribbons and tied them together in a bow, as below.

cushions, cushions, cushions

Yes, those decorative pillows that go on sofas, beds, floors and anywhere else you fancy. Since I’m a beginner I thought I best start off small and simple.

I recently ordered a bulk load of cushion pads and have been using my basket of fabric collected from the remnants section in C & H, although I’m considering using old clothing/vintage fabrics in future.

The first one was a gift for the lovely Gem from GeeWHIZZoriginals. I collected some fabric scraps and ribbons and stitched them on the front, then added some buttons.
